Q1. A linear graph is given by the relation y = 3x + 6. Find the value of y if the value of x is 5.
  • 1) 15
  • 2) 21
  • 3) 3
  • 4) 18

Solution

Put x = 5 in y = 3x + 6We get y = 21.
Q2. A bank gives 10% simple interest on the deposits. Draw a graph to show the relation between the sum deposited and the simple interest earned.

Solution

To draw the graph we assume the deposit sum to be Rs 1000, Rs 2000, Rs 3000 and Rs 4000. Now we calculate the SI for 1 year for the sum deposit. Sum deposit SI Rs 1000 Rs 2000 Rs 3000 Rs 4000 Plotting the points (1000, 100), (2000, 200), (3000, 300) and (4000, 400), we get the graph as below:
Q3. Observe the graph:    What is the difference between the lowest marks of Rishit and Samyak?
  • 1) 15
  • 2) 10
  • 3) 20
  • 4) 5

Solution

Lowest marks of Rishit is 30.Lowest marks of Samyak is 45.Hence, difference between them is 45 - 30 = 15.
Q4. Following table shows the relation between number of books sold and the profit earned on it. Number of books sold 3 6 15 Profit earned (in Rs) 15 30 75 Draw the graph for above data and find the profit earned if 12 books are sold.

Solution

Plotting the points (3, 15), (6, 30) and (15, 75), we get the graph as below: From the graph, we find that the profit earned on sale of 12 books is Rs 60.
Q5. Draw the triangle XYZ where X(4, 5), Y(-4, 2) and Z (-3, -4).

Solution

Plotting the points and joining them, we get the following triangle XYZ.
Q6. The following graph shows the amount of potatoes consumed in kg. Read the graph and answer the following questions. (a) On which day did maximum amount of potatoes consumed?(b) On which day the consumption of potatoes went down?(c) What is the combine consumption of potatoes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday?

Solution

(a) Maximum consumption of potatoes was on Sunday.(b) On Thursday, the consumption of potatoes went down.(c) The combined consumption of potatoes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday = 15 + 20 + 30 = 65 kg
Q7. The following graph shows the sale of a particular toy. Study the graph and answer the following questions: (a) The difference of sale in the month of February and March. (b) Total sale in four months.

Solution

(a) Sale in February = 125 And, sale in March = 115 So, the difference of sale = 125 - 115 = 10 (b) Total sale = 105 + 125 + 115 + 155 = 500

Q1. Two dice were tossed 100 times. The total points of each toss are represented in the histogram below:   Use the histogram to answer each of the following question. a. Which outcome happened the most times? b. How many times did this outcome discussed in part a happen? c. How many rolls had a total of less than 6 points? d. How many rolls had a total of 10 or more points? Solution a. The frequency of bar for 7 points is the highest. Hence, 7 points b. The bar for 7 points has the frequency equal to 17. Hence, the outcome of 7 points happened 17 times. c. The number of rolls less than 6 points is found by adding the frequencies for the groups of 2 points, 3 points, 4 points and 5 points. Required number=2+6+13+11 = 32 d. The number of rolls 10 or more than 10 points is found by adding the frequencies for the groups of 10 points, 11points and 12 points. Required number=7+5+2 = 14 Q2. Q1. Anusha has to prepare for her Maths exam. She has to study for 8 hours per day to complete the entire syllabus in 10 days. But because she had some relatives visiting, she was unable to study for two entire days. Now for how many hours should she study to finish the syllabus in the remaining 8 days? 1) None 2) 9 hours 3) 11 hours 4) 10 hours Solution 8 × 10 = 8 × x Q2. If the weight of 5 sheets of paper is 20 grams, how many sheets of the same paper would weigh 1 kg? Solution It is clear that the number of sheets and their corresponding weight vary directly. Also 1 kg = 1000 grams. Writing the information in the table, we have Number of sheets 5 x Weight (in grams) 20 1000 Now, in case of direct variation the ratio remains constant, so we have Hence, ...
